What is the HSK?
The HSK is the official standardized test of Mandarin Chinese for non-native speakers. It currently includes six main levels, from beginner to advanced. For example, HSK 1 expects around 150 commonly used characters, while higher levels require broader vocabulary, more complex grammar, and stronger reading and listening skills.
Many universities and employers in China and abroad recognize HSK scores to measure language ability. A passing score can support applications for programs, scholarships, and work opportunities — or simply give you a clear milestone in your Mandarin journey.
How Our HSK Prep Works
- Placement & goal setting. We identify your current level, the HSK level you’re targeting, and your timeline (for an upcoming test date or longer-term plan).
- Personalized study plan. Your tutor designs a weekly plan that balances vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening, writing, and test skills based on your goals.
- Focused one-on-one lessons. Each session includes teaching, guided practice, and review, with immediate feedback to fix mistakes before they become habits.
- Targeted practice outside of class. You’ll receive short assignments, reading passages, and listening tasks to reinforce what you learned and prepare for the next lesson.
Throughout the process, we track your progress and adjust the pace and focus so you feel prepared and confident on exam day.
What We Focus On

Build the required word lists and characters for your level, using memory techniques and review cycles. -

From basic sentences to short compositions, you’ll practice writing characters and structures that appear on the exam. -

Improve listening comprehension and spoken accuracy so the audio and oral tasks feel natural, not intimidating. -

Card games, reading and writing activities, and exam-style drills keep practice active and engaging, not just textbook-based.

Rates & Scheduling
Rate: $45 per hour — online or in-person at the Mandarin Learning Center.
Rate (your location): $55 per hour for in-person lessons at your home or office in the local service area.
Lesson length: Typically 60 minutes, with flexible options by request.
Schedule: Weekly lessons at a regular time, with the option to add extra sessions before test dates.
