What started as a small tutoring practice in Beaverton, Oregon has grown into a community of learners, tutors, and families united by a love for the Mandarin language and Chinese culture.
We believe language learning should be personal, enjoyable, and effective. That's why every student gets one-on-one attention, a customized learning plan, and a tutor who genuinely cares about their progress.

Our Story
Mandarin Learning Center was founded by Steve Riehle, who discovered his passion for Mandarin while living and working in Taiwan. After returning to the United States, he saw a need for high-quality, personalized Mandarin instruction in the Portland area.
What began as one-on-one tutoring sessions has evolved into a full learning center with multiple tutors, a structured curriculum, and students ranging from young children to business professionals.
Today, MLC continues to grow while staying true to its roots: personal attention, cultural connection, and a genuine commitment to each student's success.
